For ages, Hamburg was thought of as a cold and industrial city that doesn’t have too much to show. While that may have been true at the time, in the last few years the city has undergone an urban revolution, making it one of the coolest and hip places in Europe. If you have ever been there you know that this city has a bright future and an amazing vibe to it. And if you want to find out what the most expensive parts are, this is the right article. Keep on reading for the richest districts in Hamburg, Germany:
Eimsbüttel
Eimsbüttel is a huge and very residential area, located on the north side of Hamburg. Due to its size, it’s hard to pin down what makes it great, but here you’ll find the zoo, the Hamburg University, and countless bars and restaurants. As you might imagine from an area filled with students, there is a lot to do in terms of going out and you will certainly have fun in Eimsbüttel. However, you could also move further north, towards the outskirts of the city, and find some more peace and quiet.
Neustadt
Neustadt is the district on the western side of the inner city of Hamburg. Here you will find some of the most important landmarks of the city, such as the Hauptkirche St. Michaelis and the Alsterarkaden. It’s not a huge neighborhood, but it is one of the most lively and filled with commerce areas of the city. Regardless of whether you’re visiting the city for just a few days, or you plan on staying there for longer, this is certainly a place you will spend a lot of time in. Neustadt is also one of the best areas for drinking and partying, so if you are into that, do consider staying here.
Speicherstadt
Speicherstadt isn’t huge by any means, but it is a very unique place and certainly, a must-see for anyone that visits Hamburg. This ‘city of warehouses’ is a Unesco World Heritage Site that used to be a boring industrial area. Now it’s a cool and hip place of culture, filled with museums and restaurants. You defiantly want to see it, as it is unique to Hamburg and the many red warehouses that are filled with art, really do bring something special to the table. Sadly, this isn’t a particularly residential place and you will not be able to live here.
Altstadt
The Altstadt, literally the old town, is on the Eastern side of the inner city of Hamburg. Here you will find the wealthiest and most popular area of Hamburg. Many of the popular churches, museums and other touristy landmarks of the city are all located here, as well as many of the hotels, bars, and restaurants. It is a busy and hectic place that is usually crawling with tourists, but it’s worth a visit. The architecture is imposing but charming and the many bodies of water can even be relaxing.
