Geneva is the second-most populous city in Switzerland and the largest French-speaking city. It’s a beautiful place with some great surroundings. Geneva is also known for being the center of diplomacy, as it’s the headquarters of the UN, as well as many other international organizations. Just like in the rest of Switzerland, it’s a very expansive country and the prices of real estate are quite high. Here, we have a list of the most expansive areas in Geneva:
Petit-Saconnex – 10712.72 CHF per m2
Petit-Saconnex is located in the north of the city, as is a very charming part of town. Most of the buildings are from the 18 hundreds and the district has largely preserved it’s old school architecture and feel. That being said, you will also find some newer apartment blocks, which are affordable (for Geneva standards). The location is also great, close enough to the city center and the main transport hubs. If you want to live in a nice district, but don’t want to pay too much, definitely check Petit-Saconnex out.
Cité – 12061.22 CHF per m2
Cité is a tiny and charming district, in the center of Geneva. The buildings here are old and grand, and the cobbled streets give off a medieval vibe. Living here isn’t for everyone, as it’s not modern, there are tourists walking around and the old buildings are sometimes built with weird and odd parameters and floor plans. That being said, walking around the Cité is a cool and charming experience that you might want to experience if you plan on living in Geneva anyway.
Plainpalais – 12563.78 CHF per m2
Plainpalais is on the southern side of the city center of Geneva. It’s a cool place, as Geneva University is located here, which means that there are a lot of bars and restaurants and young people walking around. Despite that. Plainpalais is still a very affluent and nice neighborhood, that is close to the cool parts of the city, but far enough not to have too many tourists. Certainly, a good and rich area to buy property in.
Eaux-Vives – 13371.21 CHF per m2
Eaux-Vives is the most expansive area of all of Geneva, and for a good reason. It’s located to the east of the city center, on the banks of the lake. Here you will find the Parc de La Grange and the Genève Eaux-Vives station. It’s easily the best part of town, but that’s why the prices are so steep. If you can afford it, do buy here, but keep in mind that the other entries on the list are also very nice, and quite a bit cheaper.
