Most Expensive Areas of Rio De Janeiro

Rio is one of the world’s largest and most popular cities. There are countless movies, books, and video games set there, which have to engrain this place in millions of people’s minds. There are also millions of people that actually get to visit this amazing city, and if you are one of the lucky visitors, you might wonder where the rich people live. Just for that purpose, we have compiled a list of the wealthiest neighborhoods in Rio De Janeiro:

Jardim Botânico

In the south of Rio, you will find the Jardim Botânico districts, which derive its name from the Botanical Garden. The garden is huge and totally worth a visit, Brazil has astounding biodiversity and there is a lot to see there. Beyond that, the neighborhood is well developed and taken care of, with a great view of Cristo Redentor (the Jesus statue) and another park that is cool to explore. If you want to live in an affluent, but still affordable area of Rio De Janeiro that isn’t too hectic and overrun with people, the Jardim Botânico is a great area. There are also some nice hiking trails around there.

Gávea

Just bellow the Botanical Garden, you will find the Gávea neighborhood. Again, this is an affluent and safe area that is mainly populated with successful people. As you might expect from such an area, here you will find some great shopping centers, boutiques, and many fancy restaurants. It’s a predominately residential area with many nice houses, but also some apartments to live in. It is relatively far from the heart of Rio and you will need a car to come here. It is also interesting to note that on the outskirts of the district you will find a favela, and there are a few more in the surrounding areas.

Lagoa

Lagoa, as the name suggests, surrounds the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon and it is right next to the Jardim Botânico and the Gávea districts. As a matter of fact, all of the neighborhoods surrounding Lagoa are wealthy and it’s the only district in Rio De Janeiro that does not have a favela. This is a great area with a few parks and a lake, which makes it awesome for running and strolling. Besides that, the neighborhood is quiet and calm. If you want to party and have fun, don’t necessarily pick this one.

Leblon and Ipanema

Just south of the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon you will find the Ipanema and Leblon districts. Again, it’s in the southern Rio De Janeiro area and it’s a similar, wealthy, and residential area. Here you will find Ipanema Beach and it’s just a short walk away from the very famous Copacabana. This is a busy area with tourists, bars, and things to do. It’s not totally crazy like other parts of Rio, but it’s certainly a district better suited to younger people. If you want to live in a good spot, but also want to party and drink, staying or buying a property in Ipanema is a great choice. Leblon is the wealthiest district in all of Rio, and a bit calmer than Ipanema.
